Born and raised in Italy, and having spent 10 years of my life in California, I am a cultural hybrid.
My use of color is influenced by the colorful light of Southern California and painters such as Richard Diebenkorn. At the same time my compositions and shapes are inspired by the tradition of the great Italian masters of the past, like Paolo Veronese.
After becoming a mother, I began to focus on the domestic setting and the everyday objects within my home.
This singular focus became a psychological portal that revealed the ambivalence of the daily life of creative mothers.
On one side, there is a visceral call to “take care” (see “After Veronese”), as a caregiver of the domestic heart. Here, the objects used in everyday activities like cleaning and cooking serve as a universal connection to women throughout history.
On the other side, we encounter a creative spirit, capable of connecting with nature in a deep way, bridging the present with a not-so-distant folkloric culture.
My paintings are built with layers of acrylics, oil, color sticks that can sometimes also include wool embroidery.
In essence, my still-life serve as autobiographical landscapes, forging connections between the ordinary and the profound. They delve into psychological archetypes, dreams, and cultural references, weaving together a narrative that is deeply personal, yet relatable.
